    The book goes into amazing detail on certain skirmishes it is amazing. The book also follows the story about the Pacific battles. It shows how many lives it destroyed and how it molded our future into what we have now. Many people fear to look into the past, but Norman stone gazes into history. View 1 comment.

    If, like me, your knowledge of WWII history is sketchy, a bit of a mixed bag of truth and fiction, this succinct book will deliver the fact and flow of this cataclysm. But this book is more than a masterful distillation of raw events. I think Stone realises the profanity of considering such things without being moved, stunned, horrified and sobered by them.

    I got this book out of the library this after realising that the only unread history books I owned were far too long to tackle right now! At pages this is a short overview of a war that has inspired works several times as long in the past few years, and I have to say I was impressed. Parts of the narrative did feel rushed, but that was obviously going to be the case in such an ambitiously succinct project. All the major episodes were covered as well as a background which was more detailed tha I got this book out of the library this after realising that the only unread history books I owned were far too long to tackle right now!

Being new to this topic, this book didn't really give me the background I was hoping for- that is suitability for green readers on this topic. Also, in my opinion, it seems that the author was slightly biased towards the British military giving more praises than I thought was required.

    Googled his background and realized that this was a British author. Although, this book was easy to read, War histories has been my recent interest. Although, this book was easy to read, it is pointless building castles on my weak foundation of history knowledge. Jun 20, Sean rated it really liked it Shelves: ww-ii. It was good to read a WW II book that had more of the Eastern front discussed, since that is where most of the casualties were. But this was all a bit too short for me. The author nicely disclaims this fact from the very beginning, stating that only the big issues will be brought up.
